Norwegian brewing traditions have inspired many brewers in later years, and with the rediscovery of the ancient Norwegian yeast called “Kveik” brewers are given an opportunity to make unique beer at an incredible speed.
Our Story
Kveik Yeastery was founded in 2018 when two homebrewers, Arne Bøhmer and Øystein Vold, saw a potential to produce and sell true multi-strain kveik yeast in a global market. They went on a journey to collect many yeast cultures, and finally managed to set up a pilot plant in Brumunddal, Norway in 2022. The company quickly managed to distribute their yeast into the Nordics, Europe and North America, and in the fall of 2023 the company restructured and decided to scale up production to meet global demand. Kveik Yeastery is now a registered trademark owned by Enzyferm AS, a Norwegian company specializing in sustainable fermentation technology.

Authentic multi-strain kveik
Original kveik cultures consists of several yeast types in each culture, and without all the yeast types in place we don’t call it kveik. Each yeast type in the culture contributes with taste and aroma, and the original composition is what gives unique flavour and aroma.
At Kveik Yeastery we produce the original cultures as they have been used by the local farmers, just without the bacteria. Our yeast is produced on organic material with the aim to produce the most authentic kveik as possible. Authenticity is everything.
